My fellow Americans often assume that the other highly developed nations of the world are following our lead on Covid. Or should be. But Israel, the most vaccinated nation on earth, has been the exception in one important aspect: the USA, our sanctioned high priests of Covid had proclaimed, should be more like Israel. Why?
The near-perfect vaccination rate. The Green Pass – a vaccine passport. The first nation to start widespread boosting. The first nation to lead in providing a second booster shot. The school lockdowns. The rigid quarantines. The military-like efficiency in ensuring general compliance.
Like Jericho of old, the Israel government and public health authorities had built a perfect wall of vaccination and social restrictions against – well, not so much Covid but reality. Now it is all coming down.
Yes, Israel seemed to be leading the way: out Fauci-ing Fauci. But perhaps they are still leading the way, just now in a new direction. Let’s hear the sound of trumpets, of the ram’s horn, of dissenting and even now contrite Israel officials and medical professionals.
Itmar Grotto, a former deputy director of the Israeli Health Ministry, in late December 2021 called for ending quarantine. He went even further, suggesting that Israeli should consider a policy of “letting people get infected [with Omicron].”
Why such heretical madness? Because the mortality risk posed by Omicron is so low, and its transmissibility so high, and the recovery from it confers robust natural immunity. Poly-variant immunity. The Jericho walls, Grotto asserted, will not hold, and – likely – do not even need to hold. Israelis, even double-boosted, are getting Omicron. But very very few will die from it.
If this suggested a crack in the Israeli Covid fortifications, that crack would soon become a chasm.
In early January 2022, Professor Ehud Qimron, head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Tel Aviv University and one of the leading Israeli immunologists, put the Israel government on full blast.
Let me share a few favorites notes (from the English translation; original, Hebrew):
"... in retrospect it is clear that you have failed miserably in almost all of your actions, and even the media is already having a hard time covering your shame."
"You refused to admit that recovery is more protective than a vaccine, despite previous knowledge and observations showing that non-recovered vaccinated people are more likely to be infected than recovered people."
"You refused to adopt the “Barrington Declaration”, signed by more than 60,000 scientists and medical professionals, or other commonsense programs. You chose to ridicule, slander, distort and discredit them."
"The truth is that you have brought the public’s trust in you to an unprecedented low, and you have eroded your status as a source of authority."
"The truth is that you have burned hundreds of billions of shekels to no avail – for publishing intimidation, for ineffective tests, for destructive lockdowns and for disrupting the routine of life in the last two years."
Change “shekels” to US dollars, and Professor Ehud Qimron’s statement could be copy-n-pasted as a retort to and report on American public health officials and the MSM.
But we don’t just have a gap in the Jericho walls wide enough to drive chariots through – the walls themselves are crumbling tumbling down. Or, as Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis, head of public health services at the Health Ministry reported earlier in January 2022: “Israel has ‘no control’ over the Omicron-fueled coronavirus outbreak sweeping the country, as infections continued to surge.”
Let’s hear now from one of the architects of the new fortress Jericho, Professor Cyrille Cohen, head of Immunology at Bar Ilan University, and a member of the advisory committee for vaccines for the Israeli government.
In an 18 January 2022 interview with Freddie Sayers, Professor Cohen admits that “We [Israeli public health officials] have made mistakes.”
In what seems self-revisionist history, Cohen claims: “I think that vaccination is a personal choice. And I always said, I believe it is so.”
Well, vaccine mandates for Covid were a mistake. Getting a Covid vaccination is a personal choice. Interesting. (That Green Pass or vaccine passport: it was just encouragement).
By American standards, opposition to the vaccine mandates makes one an “anti-vaxxer”: so Professor Cyrille Cohen, head of Immunology at Bar Ilan University, and a member of the advisory committee for vaccines for the Israeli government, is an “anti-vaxxer.” There’s more.
Cohen’s biggest regret: “For me education was the thing we shouldn’t have touched. Never, never.” So to start, the schools should not have been closed. Likewise, vaccinations should not be required for children to attend school. Such heresy. There’s more.
Cohen acknowledges reality – this is not a pandemic of the unvaccinated: “Especially with Omicron, where we don’t see virtually any difference, there is a very narrow gap between people vaccinated and non-vaccinated, both can get infected with a virus, more or less at the same pace.”
Well, thank you for that. Even though by early 2021, it was becoming obvious that the vaccines did NOT prevent infection or transmission. The vaccines did NOT – as promised – stop the spread.
So the walls of Jericho are in ruins. The Jericho wall architects, now apologists. At least in Israel. Any lessons learned?
What does Professor Cohen see on the horizon? I paraphrase a bit here, perhaps too freely, but keep Professor Cohen’s qualifications largely intact. (His likely is my almost certainly). None of this is news, truly, to people outside the American MSM bubble.
Omicron will likely shift the Covid pandemic to an endemic. Omicron will also likely provide many people with the equivalent of a free and highly effective poly-variant vaccination or booster. Omicron presents a considerably lower mortality risk than the previous strains of virus – and this holds true even for the most at risk segments of the population. (Again, my paraphrase of Cohen’s statements).
Israel is deciding to live with the virus. Israel is leaving the Fauci Alliance. The walls of Jericho are in ruins, and the Israel people are regaining their freedom.
The USA right now is making quite different choices: ignoring the global data on Omicron and natural immunity, forcing children to vaccinate, and demonizing those adults who fail for whatever reasons to meet the ever-shifting definition of fully vaccinated. (Currently, two shots and double-boosted). The definition which Israel once set – once built, but has now abandoned.
What can the USA learn from Israel’s experience?
Exodus 9:1 (English standard version): Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, “Let my people go, that they may serve me.”’”
We have an unelected tyrant, a false god-king, a Pharaoh Fauci demanding our everlasting servitude and bondage.
Where is our American Moses willing to defend our unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness? No matter. Perhaps we do not need a leader, one leader – perhaps this is a matter that must start with individual responsibility, a personal declaration of independence.
Pharaoh Fauci, let my people go. Do not be mistaken by the polite form – this was not a request.
