Japan and Covid: no Mandates or Lockdowns, but World-Class Results
The USA for the years 2020-2021, according to the WHO, has an estimated Excess Deaths rate of 140 people per 100K — compared with Japan’s -8 per 100K. Yes, that is a negative 8.
Back on 29 January 2022, we were having some fun with the MSM’s definition of vaccine skepticism and the dreaded “anti-vaxxers” — pointing out that it applied to the nations of Japan and Sweden, to start. In the USA, if — for whatever reasons — you were against the one-size-fits-all vaccination and booster regimen, you were immediately placed in the demon-box.
So here it was, straight from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare:
If that font is a little tricky to read:
Although we encourage all citizens to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, it is not compulsory or mandatory. Vaccination will be given only with the consent of the person to be vaccinated after the information provided. Please get vaccinated of your own decision, understanding both the effectiveness in preventing infectious diseases and the risk of side effects. No vaccination will be given without consent. Please do not force anyone in your workplace or those who around you to be vaccinated, and do not discriminate against those who have not been vaccinated.
What irresponsible madness! If you took our MSM & Twitter & Facebook seriously.
To repeat for our fact checkers, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare said “do not force anyone in your workplace or those who around you to be vaccinated”; and they further stated “do not discriminate against those who have not been vaccinated.”
We also mentioned back in January that Japan was having far superior Covid public health outcomes than the USA. The recent (28 May 2022) WorldoMeters data shows that Japan, despite have a population size roughly equal to 39% of the USA population size, has only 30,497 Covid deaths to the 1,031,218 American Covid deaths.
So at 39% of our population size, Japan has only 3% of our Covid deaths. Now you know why our MSM has NOT and will NEVER discuss Japan and Covid.
Let’s turn now to the recent (May 2022) WHO report “Global excess deaths associated with COVID-19, January 2020 - December 2021” and have a quick glance at the numbers for Japan versus the USA:
So for 2020-2021, Japan averaged a negative 8 excess deaths per 100,000 people, within a confidence interval of negative 14 to negative 2 excess deaths; the USA, 140 excess deaths per 100,000 people, within a confidence interval of 134 to 147 excess deaths.
To explain the USA’s poor results in comparison — the worst in the world for a highly developed nation, we cannot use the small Sweden excuse. Again, Japan has a population size over 120 million people, which is roughly 39% that of the USA.
Japan also has a slightly older population on average than the USA. And as your author who lived in Japan for three years can testify, Japan is heavily reliant on public transportation. Crowded public transportation. Crowded city streets. Below, a personal photo (© 1999) from a favorite place: Yokohama, Chinatown.
Japan has a population density of 345 people per square kilometer of land; the USA, a population density of 36 people per square km. (Source: World Bank). Japan’s population density is roughly 9.6 times greater than that of the USA.
But no vaccine mandates. And — wait for it — as Dr. Hitoshi Oshitani (23 May 2022) noted in his “COVID lessons from Japan: the right messaging empowers citizens,” published in Nature (boldface mine):
Japan has sought to understand the spread and risks of the disease and apply that to minimizing deaths and hospitalizations while maintaining social and economic activities.
Japan’s constitution prohibits strict lockdowns.
Constitutional rights AGAINST lockdowns and AGAINST medical procedures without informed consent! So for the Covid pandemic, Japan had no vaccine mandates, no lockdowns, and did “maintain” economic and social activities — and all this produced far superior results to Anthony Fauci’s reign of error and terror in the USA.
Indeed, as we remarked at American Exile back in February 2022:
[Fauci] has been conducting a massive and deeply flawed experiment upon us and at our expense. We measure Fauci’s failure in thousands of unnecessary deaths, and in billions of dollars wasted. In generational damage to our children.
The approach Japan took is also in direct contrast to the recent recommendations touted by Bill Gates — The WHO Pandemic Treaty. Do results matter? Does reality matter? Do beneficial public health, economic, and social outcomes? If so, we have two highly successful models: Japan and Sweden. Learn from success.
